FrançaisBasé à Bruxelles depuis 2014, Jordi Cassagne est un compositeur, bassiste, contrebassiste et "contre-violiste" (violone) originaire du sud-ouest de la France. Il obtient un Master en Jazz au Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag en 2014, ayant étudié auprès de Hein van de Geyn, Frans van der Hoeven et Clemens van der Feen. Entre 2016 et 2019, il se forme en Musiques Anciennes au Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel avec Korneel Le Compte.
Se laissant parfois entraîner par l’alchimie du jazz et des musiques improvisées, par les sonorités boisées des musiques anciennes ou bien puisant son inspiration dans les musiques traditionnelles ou le rock, son parcours est une déambulation heureuse au gré de ses rencontres. Jordi compose et arrange pour différentes formations dont le quintet Barbastelle (depuis 2023), le groupe de post-rock Limite (depuis 2018), le duo Yiasemi (depuis 2022) et son solo au violone Soir Fossile (depuis 2021). |
Parmi ses projets on peut citer les groupes : Terpsichore (jazz contemporain), Le Bal de Marie Galante (bal antillais), Haratago (chant basque), Julien Marga Quartet (jazz), Omega Impact (chanson), Mostafa Taleb / About That Magic Circle (kamancheh iranien), Beñat Achiary / Un Poète à New York (jazz, poésie). Il a également croisé le chemin de musiciens tels que: Denis Badault, Beñat Achiary, Pedro Soler, Nicolas Nageotte, Olivier Thomas, Catherine Delaunay, Léo Jassef, Théo Lanau, Jean Dousteyssier, Quentin Biardeau, Sam Comerford, Fabian Fiorini, Eve Beuvens, Bruno Vansina, Sylvain Debaisieux, Nabou Clearhout, Samuel Ber, Benjamin Sauzereau, Hélène Duret, Geoffrey Fiorese, Ananta Roosens, Mostafa Taleb.
Dans sa discographie, plusieurs albums sont chaleureusement salués par la presse musicale dont "Bengalifère" (Futura/Hôte Marge – 2014) et "Terpsichore" (Outnote Records – 2022), qui sont tous deux élus Révélation Jazz Magazine. En 2016, avec le Julien Marga Quartet, il a remporté les Trophées du Sunside, et en 2019, les tremplins des festivals Tonnerre de Jazz à Pau et Cosmojazz à Chamonix.
Entre 2010 et 2015, Jordi a eu l'opportunité de jouer de la contrebasse baroque sous la direction de chefs renommés tels que Sigiswald Kuijken, Barthold Kuijken, Sebastien Marq et Peter Van Heygen. De plus, en musique contemporaine, il a apporté sa contribution à plusieurs projets orchestraux, dont To You (Peter Schat), De Tijd (Louis Andriessen), Sponsus (Sasha Zamler-Carhart), Proposition of Fossils (Graham Flett), Chord Symphony (Tom Aldrich), Black Series (Peter Ablinger). Jordi a également collaboré avec les projets interdisciplinaires Anatomie d’un Silence (Compagnie La Bâtarde - 2015) et Ensuing (Karyn Benquet - Nederlands Dans Theater – 2013).

Based in Brussels since 2014, Jordi Cassagne is a composer, bass player, double bass player, and violone player coming from the south-west of France. Jordi’s journey has taken him along a joyful path wandering among his artistic encounters, Sometimes drawn by the alchemy of jazz and improvised music, sometimes by the woody tones of early music or inspired by traditional music or rock.
Jordi composes and arranges for various groups, including the quintet Barbastelle (since 2023), the post-rock group Limite (since 2018), the duo Yiasemi (since 2022) and his violone solo Soir Fossile (since 2021).
